AnQi's Music Monday: Lenka's "Everything At Once" and Lauren DeStefano's Fever

MY THOUGHTS: The music video for Everything At Once is just delightfully creepy. You might've heard it on one of Disney's commercials, but the clowns that immediately pop into mind are not for the faint of heart. :D A majority of the plot in Fever takes place in a wicked circus where girls, forced into prostitution, are the main attractions. For me, Lenka's pop and accordion fit perfectly.

Jade's Music Monday: Florence And The Machine's "Swimming" and Jay Asher's Thirteen Reasons Why

Clay Jensen returns home from school to find a mysterious box with his name on it lying on his porch. Inside he discovers thirteen cassette tapes recorded by Hannah Baker, his classmate and crush who committed suicide two weeks earlier.

On tape, Hannah explains that there are thirteen reasons why she decided to end her life. Clay is one of them. If he listens, he'll find out how he made the list.

MY THOUGHTS: There's thirteen reasons that Hannah is dead. Clay is one of them. He was the one who reminded her of swimming...until she forgot, and started to sink.

MY THOUGHTS:

This song is all about holding on, love that just needs to last. It's all about changing and moving on and just relationships with people.  This song is so haunting that it reminded me about Winter Girls by Laurie Halse Anderson. If you've read this book you know all about it and its harrowing words that hit home (at least with me).

AnQi's Music Monday: Kat Edmonson's Lucky and Jennifer Brown's Hate List

         Five months ago, Valerie Leftman's boyfriend, Nick, opened fire on their school cafeteria. Shot trying to stop him, Valerie inadvertently saved the life of a classmate, but was implicated in the shootings because of the list she helped create. A list of people and things she and Nick hated. The list he used to pick his targets.

          Now, after a summer of seclusion, Val is forced to confront her guilt as she returns to school to complete her senior year. Haunted by the memory of the boyfriend she still loves and navigating rocky relationships with her family, former friends and the girl whose life she saved, Val must come to grips with the tragedy that took place and her role in it, in order to make amends and move on with her life.

MY THOUGHTS: 

Well, how on Earth is Kat Edmonson's Lucky and Hate List on the same blog post? Let me explain: Hate List is all about "Come(ing) to grips with the tragedy that took place and her role in it..." and Kat Edmonson looks like she's already found her solace in the simple but sweet and enlightening tune from Lucky. 

Indie pop has always been my favorite genre, so you might hear it a lot in future Music Mondays.
